Laptop love

My old Dell laptop is really really finished. It has lost a couple of buttons. The screen is almost detached from the bottom. It won't recognize my external hard disk. It's over....

Female (25), slightly impatient and demanding, looking for new laptop love; has to be powerful and versatile.

Any suggestions? Should I go for Mac or not? What brands are good, which aren’t? HELP!

  1. Please, please, PLEASE get a mac. It will change your life. Trust me. It's the best purchase I ever made. I can't believe I suffered through grad school using a dell. Seriously.

Here in Canada, students get 15% off macs and everything apple. So you find out if this is the same for you. You can check the apple store online.

  2. Oh boy that's weird - my husband's Dell laptop has come apart (top and bottom) too. What on earth is that about?! No missing keys yet tho!

Several of my friends have Macs and simply LOVE them. Personally, I'm very much a PC person - although this possibly roots from having an old Mac at work once which drove me insane. But I'm sure they've come a long way since then!!!

  3. Kle, trust me when I say that they HAVE come a long way! i struggled using an apple computer back in the early 90s. They in no way resemble the old models and they are far, far more user friendly than PCs. My Mac saves me so much time. Looking back at the Dell, I really can't believe I waited so long to make the switch.

Oh, and the transition from PC to Mac is piece of cake. I worried it would be a big learning curve. Nope! I was able to pick up where I left off on my dissertation the same day I made the switch.

  4. thanks for your comments!

Macs are much more expensive around here (or is that the same in Canada/UK?) but I think students get discounts here too. Should look into that....

  5. They are somewhat more expensive here too, but they last longer, and you don't require as much maintenance. They don't get viruses, for example. So they can be cost savers in the long run, or at least are good value. Definitely use your discount, if you can!
